Hello! 👋 Welcome to Faux Fae Studio, thank you for taking the time to have a peruse!
The inspiration for these Human Remains Specimens actually comes from a rather macabre and sad true story I happened upon.
Over a period of time leading up to 1848, a cemetery in Clerkenwell London was found to be digging up the deceased. The cemetary attendants were secretly taking the bodies in the dead of night and burning them in a furnace which they had put in the 'Bone House' ( I also learned that a bone house is a small structure within a cemetery where bodies are kept before burial, or in the olden days over winter as the ground was too frozen to dig). They were found out after complaints of a horrendous smell, and someone went to the police when they realised what was happening. This of course caused an outrage in Victorian society, and was a big story back then.
My bottles of 'cremains' are inspired by this little piece of history, you never know when inspiration will strike!
I styled my bottles on what I would imagine a Victorian evidence sample may have looked like after it's been in storage or in a museum for 100+ years.
The contents are mineral/vegetable in origin no human/animal bones here!
I take a long time sourcing my bottles! I just love these ones. To give you an idea of size, they have a capacity of 25Oml.
The labels were designed by myself, each one was aged by hand.
Every aspect, was designed sourced and made by me in my little seaside studio in Kent.
